The next municipal elections will take place on November 7th
There are no electoral districts in Messines. The entire population is therefore represented by all members of council. The council is made up of 6 councilors and the mayor.

How to run as a candidate
Choosing of a position
A person can run for only one position on the municipal council
Admission condition
To do so, during a general election, the person must have the right to be entered on the municipality’s list of electors and must have resided within that territory continuously or otherwise for at least the last 12 months on September 1 of the year of the general election or, in the case of a by-election, for at least the last 12 months on the date of publication of the notice of election.
Required form
A nomination paper may be obtained from the office of the returning officer of the municipality.
Grouping allowed
In the case of municipalities subject to the rules governing the financing of political parties (municipalities with a population of 5 000 or more), candidates can join together in authorized parties. As for the other municipalities, candidates can form tickets recognized by the returning officer.
Period for submitting nomination papers
The period during which the person may file his duly completed nomination paper along with the appropriate documents at the office of the returning officer begins on the 51th day and ends at 4:30 p.m. on the 37th day preceding the day set for the election. Be sure to check the days and times when the office of your returning officer is open.

To be a qualified voter, you must
Be 18 years old on election day
September 1, 2021;
- Be a Canadian citizen;
- Not be under curatorship
- Not be convicted of an offence that constitutes a corrupt electoral practice.
September 1, 2021
- Reside in the municipality and have been in Quebec for at least six months;
- Be for at least 12 months, the owner of a building or the occupant of a business establishment located on the territory of the municipality.
- An elector who does not residein the municipality but who is the owner of an immovable or the occupant of a business establishment located on the territory of the municipality must transmit a signed writing to the municipality requesting that his name be added to the list of electors.
- Persons who are co-owners of an immovable or co-occupants of a business establishment shall designate from among themselves, by means of a power of attorney transmitted to the municipality, only one person who may be entered on the voters list.

List of Electors
At the beginning of the election period, the electoral officer will send you a notice informing you of your registration. You must carefully check the information on this notice. Remember that to vote, you must be registered on the list of electors.
To verify your registration on the list of electors, you can also contact the electoral officer of your municipality.
If you notice any of the following situations, you must go before the Board of revisors:
- You are not registered on the voters list
- You are registered when you shouldn’t be
- You are registered at a home, building or place of business when you should be registered at another location;
- Your registration contains errors in your name, address or date of birth.
You must go to the board of revisors to apply for registration or correction to the list of electors. A parent, your spouse or a person who lives with you may apply on your behalf. To register, you must present two pieces of identification.
- The identification document must mention at least the first and last name and the date of birth of the person whose registration is requested. For example, but not limited to: Canadian passport, birth certificate, Canadian citizenship certificate, health insurance card, hospital card, etc.
- The other document must indicate at least the first and last names and the home address of the person whose registration is requested. Examples of such documents include, but are not limited to: driver's license, school report card, student card, electricity or telephone bill, etc.
Revision of the list of electors
The revision period of the list of electors will take place on the following dates
October 18, 2021 from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm
October 19, 2021 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
